Ranking Member Michaud Responds to First Lady’s Push on Veteran Employment

Washington, D.C.  – Today, Representative Mike Michaud (ME-02), Ranking Member of the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, issued the following statement on First Lady Michelle Obama’s address to the National Governors Association on Administration efforts to assist states in translating military training and experience into credit towards professional licenses.

“I share Mrs. Obama’s view that while the war may be ending, delivering on our nation’s promise to support those who have served and sacrificed is really just beginning in earnest. Veteran unemployment remains too high, and this type of all-hands-on-deck approach is what we need right now. The federal government working with states to make the transition from military to civilian life easier is a win-win. It provides employers with the trained and dedicated workers they need, and it helps veterans enter the workforce and apply the valuable skills they’ve mastered through their military experience. Many states have already moved in the right direction on this, and I expect more will soon. Today we must commit to building on what’s been accomplished, and I appreciate the Administration’s dedication to this critical issue for our veterans and our economy.”
